How gnome names are built
¶Gnomes do not receive a name, they accumulate one. A gnome is given a short nursery syllable, then picks up an addition for the first thing they broke, another for the first thing they fixed, and another from whoever was standing nearby at the time. The result is long on purpose: Bibbinockit, Fizzikizzle, Widderoglin. Each half means something small and busy — bibbin curious, ockit pocket — and the length itself is the status marker rather than any single element.
The sound rules follow from that. Every element is light, every vowel is short, and the stress bounces rather than lands, which is why gnomish tolerates doubled consonants that a heavier language would choke on: bb, dd, mm, zz, ll.
